I've got the blues... I hope! 😉 What do you think? Am I on the path to grooviness?
But first! You may already know about my online music school for adults, Indie Conservatory. For the past year or so, I have been creating courses for amateur and pro musicians alike who want to learn to read music and improve their skills.
This week at Indie Conservatory:
Launch of Note Reading, Level 3 (#notereading). The course covers the notes of the treble clef, the "architecture" of major and minor scales, and intervals, specifically seconds and octaves. If you are interested in learning to read music and basic piano knowledge, check out the school below:
Coming next month:
Launch of Learn the Cello, Level 2. This course is packed with play along tunes and teaches beginner bow technique! It makes a great refresher for anyone who's feeling a little tight in the bow arm. :) More info to come in my next email.
Back to the blues! Your musical requests are turning out to be great fun- thanks for sending them! The first one I present here is Bill Withers' (#billwithers) Ain't No Sunshine (#aintnosunshine). I did a lot of listening to Bill and his band and used it to put together my first blues arrangement.
The first time I heard this song was watching one of my favourite movies, Notting Hill (#nottinghill). I just love the zany characters, feel-good tone and the jokes in the movie. In the middle of the film there's a great montage of a year's changing seasons, and Ain't No Sunshine is playing in the background. It was a pleasure to get to know this music so intimately, and a real challenge to make this video. Many thanks to Glen for asking for blues! The readers of Horse and Hound will be very grateful (😂 inside joke for Notting Hill fans ;)
As always, I love hearing from you- go ahead and write me with comments or musical requests. I haven't forgotten any of you who already made suggestions and I am preparing those videos. At a time when most musicians aren't out performing in public, it is GREAT to have this opportunity to perform for you here, and to know you want to hear music!
Here's Bill Withers and the band. So groovy!
